The Baker family has a long boating history and is renowned within the Goolwa area. Roy Baker, after whom the R S Baker was named, had a grandfather, Henry Woodward who was the Hindmarsh Island Ferryman for 27 years. In 1894 Henry sailed his yacht "Dauntlus" from Goolwa to Murray Bridge to compete in the inaugural "Regatta" held by the Murray Bridge Boat and Yacht Club. (Note: the spelling of Dauntlus is as engraved on the Cup) He won the race and received a large trophy along with fifteen pounds prize money. In 1993, the GRYC was presented with the trophy, a silver plated mulled wine container, inscribed with the words "H Woodward’s Dauntlus’. The family heirloom takes pride of place at GRYC and is presented as the winning trophy for the annual yacht race aptly named the "Dauntlus Cup". The Cup is mounted on a board in the trophy cabinet. The winner of each participating division is engraved on a plaque on the backing board and also receives a small trophy to keep.
