Cruising Calendar 2011 / 2012

Club cruises are all about ‘cruising in company’ and are open to all members and friends be it in a sailing boat or a motorboat. Cruising is a low stress way of getting out on the water with similar people and visiting some of the interesting places that make up the ‘Lower Lakes’ and the Coorong.

We now have cruising destination information on the website.

The lock through the barrage will be open all season, and cruising into the Coorong is again available on a regular basis.

The club doesn't normally program events on long weekends, but this season I have added some. However, they will be subject to 'pre-registration' 2 weeks in advance to assess demand, so let me know if you want to go away.

July 2011
Winter Dash    Goolwa - Wellington - Goolwa    120km in 36 hours!
Weekend to be decided, but a chance to cross the lake in winter conditions.

October 2011
Monday 3
Pre-season ‘tune-up’ cruise.
Dust off the cobwebs, empty the bilge, air out the cabin but most importantly get sailing. A day cruise to wherever the wind blows us. (Probably Clayton for a BBQ lunch).

November 2011
Saturday and Sunday 5 & 6
Cruise and race to Narrung and stay overnight.
Be part of the action. This is a delightful place to spend the night and a nice long sail. There is a toilet and not much else, however in the past there has been quite a lot of organisation to have a shared dinner and a fire on the little beach, so check for more details closer to the date. NB: You will require flares and PFD1's for this cruise.

December 2011
Xmas Cruise A chance to do nothing after Christmas perhaps rafted up in the back of a creek somewhere far, far from the normal day to day world.

January 2012
Sunday 8
Boatakana
This is a family day with some fun and competition in boats off the club marina. Bring a picnic lunch and any watercraft are welcome.

Wednesday and Thursday 25 & 26
NIGHT CRUISE
BYO BBQ tea at the GRYC at 7pm, then at dusk set off for Clayton to stay the night. Thursday morning the CBBC will be having their Australia Day Breakfast to which we are invited (cost less than $10).

February 2012
Saturday 11
Clayton Bay Regatta
Come and watch the racing boats fight it out to and from Clayton and be part of the fun and action.
Day cruise to Clayton with a BBQ lunch at the CBBC (cost less than $10) and then a BYO BBQ dinner at the GRYC.

March 2012
Saturday, Sunday and Monday 10,11 & 12
Cruise to be decided. Possibly across the lake to Wellington.
This is a long weekend cruise and 'pre-registration' 2 weeks in advance will be required.

Saturday and Sunday 24 & 25
CBBC Rat Race weekend.
Come to Clayton and be part of the action. Meals provided at the CBBC. A great weekend for some fun racing or just to get away on your boat and watch the action from the clifftops at Clayton.

Saturday and Sunday March 31 and April 1
Finnis Race and overnight cruise to Wally's Landing.
Last season over 40 people spent the night at the landing. Come for the race or just cruise up. you will need to bring your own chairs and food. There is a great BBQ pit, and if you have room bring a little bit of firewood or put some on the rescue boat. Also if room bring a small table to help prepare food and any salads or desserts to share will make you instant friends.

April 2012
Easter Weekend
GRYC Easter Creek Hop - 2 nights away over Easter. We will visit Deep Creek and Holmes Creek.

"The best ever overnight spot is Deep Creek…When the moon comes up over the reeds it is heaven. Both Holmes & Deep Creek are excellent hurricane holes to escape bad weather in the high reeds – it is magic.I believe that the area also transforms mediocre wine into the best you ever had – and the same for BBQ meats!"

This is a long weekend cruise and 'pre-registration' 2 weeks in advance will be required.
